Battle of Aliwal

28 January 1846

Offensive operations by the Sikh Army concentrated on the area around Ludhiana in a bid to interrupt British supply lines. Under the capable leadership of Sir Harry Smith, the British attacked the new position and through effective coordination, were able to force the Sikhs to withdraw from two strongholds on their main line of defence by late afternoon.
