The French serving Maharajah Ranjit Singh

15/7/2012 to 15/8/2012

This exhibition part of 'Saint-Tropez celebrates India' highlights the connection between the Province of Saint-Tropez and India. This connection was particularly strong in the case of the Punjab where, Jean- Francois Allard a Tropezian and former General in Napoleons army, went onto serve as a general in the army of Maharajah Ranjit Singh. In 2010 ASHT sponsored the launch of 'The Lions Firanghis:Europeans in the Court of Lahore' an illustrated book tracing the history of many Europeans, including Allard, who found their way to the Kingdom of Lahore.

The exhibition, which features many illustrations and objects highlighting this fascinating connection, has been put together by Henry Allard a direct descendent of General Allard, and still a resident of Saint-Tropez, in association with Jean-Marie Lafont a leading expert on Ranjit Singh.
