Sacred Journeys: Expressions of Faith
21/11/2008 to 13/4/2009
Discover how people express their different faiths through pilgrimage, as pilgrims from Glasgow tell their stories through films, photographs and objects. Learn why people go on pilgrimage, where they go and what they do.
The exhibition tells the story of St Mungo, Glasgow's patron saint, and looks at how he was celebrated. You can also find out about medieval Glasgow as an important place of pilgrimage, and see a box that once held a bone of Saint Thomas of Canterbury.
Acommpanying the exhibition is an interesting series of talks on the theme of pilgrimage. At some of the talks you can listen to and meet the pilgrims who contributed to the exhibition. Other topics include the history of pilgrimage in Glasgow and Scotland and the continuing support for pilgrimages.
