Vaisakhi at the Wallace CollectionDate: Monday, 05 April, 2004
The breathtakingly striking sword of the legendary founder of the Sikh Kingdom, Ranjit Singh, acted as the stimulus for this special event. Visitors to the Wallace Collection on March 29th were treated to an exciting range of activities. Children engaged in workshops where they made their own armour and created splendid bejewelled cardboard daggers. Sikh storytelling by Jaswinder Singh attracted a capacity audience. For the children, the highlight of the day was the opportunity to handle genuine Indian arms during David Edge’s talk on Indian Arms and Armour.
The Warrior Kings Gallery Trail, which can still be seen in the Oriental Armoury collection, features beautiful examples of Sikh arms and armour including the sword of Ranjit Singh.
Another ASHT event at the Wallace Collection is being planned for September to coincide with Anglo Sikh Heritage Week.
