Battlefield Tour 2010Date: Tuesday, 06 April, 2010
The highly successful ASHT Battlefield Tour returns this year with a day trip on Saturday 29th May taking visitors on a journey that highlights the tremendous contribution made by Sikh soldiers during WW1.
Visit the preserved trenches at Bayernwald, learn how Sikh forces arrived in Europe unprepared for winter combat, stand in the battlefields around Neuve Chapelle and hear from expert tour guides how Sikh Regiments were at the forefront of many battles.
The tour also includes a visit to the spectacular Indian Memorial dedicated to the memory of Indian soldiers who fought and died for the freedom of Europe, and a trip to Ypres, where you will have the opportunity to take part in the famous ceremony at the Menin Gate and wonder around the quaint Belgian town.
My favourite time on the trip was taking part in the Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate. I felt very proud to represent both Britain and India...Jeevan Kaur Age 10
The one thing I learnt from the trip was how little I and others are aware of the contribution made by India for the British Army. There is just so much to learn...Ambi Ray-Sanghera
