On Sunday, 21st Nov at 6:00 pm Star One UK (Sky EPG 783) will show ‘The Saragarhi Challenge Cup' Polo Match between a Sikh team the Sherdills and the British Army Polo team, at the Royal Berkshire Polo Club to commemorate the Battle of Saragarhi - a very important battle that took place over a century ago.

Prince Charles - himself a keen Polo player, attended the Polo match.

The proceeds of the match went to support the ‘Bhumi Vardaan' Charity Foundation and the British Asian Trust.

The Price of Wales set up the Bhumi Vardaan Foundation during a visit to India in March 2006, to promote sustainable agriculture in the Punjab and help to ensure a viable way of life on the land not only for today's farmers but also for future generations.

The Saragarhi Challenge Cup was conceived by the Anglo Sikh Heritage Trail and is dedicated to memory of the 21 Sikhs of the 36th Regiment, who died in the battle of Saragarhi, 12th Sept 1897.

ASHT spearheaded a National campaign to raise awareness of this battle and launched Saragarhi Day on 12th September 2010.

The Battle of Saragarhi, was fought during the Tirah Campaign on 12 September 1897 between twenty-one Sikhs of the 4th Battalion (then 36th Sikhs) of the Sikh Regiment of British India, defending an army post, and 10,000 Afghan and Orakzai tribesmen. The battle occurred in the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa, now part of Pakistan, which then formed part of British India.
